It is back to school time! For our family that means back to school with food allergies!
My little man is starting kindergarten very soon. It is hard to believe that both my kiddos will be in school full time. I am thankful this time around that I’ve done this once already. I’ve already had one child go through kindergarten with a food allergy.
For me, I am a bit stressed because the reoccurrence of the almond allergy happened to quickly and in the middle of summer. Typically, I would have already met with the school and had the plan drafted up in May!
Thankfully, I was able to get in contact with the administrative staff before they left for their summer break and our plan is in motion.
In preparation on my end, I need to make sure that I have all my prescriptions filled with the RX still attached to them for the school.
I need to make sure that I have my Food Allergy Action Plan as well as our Asthma Action Plan completed by the doctors.
In addition to the action plans, I need to make sure that I have all the appropriate paperwork filled out for medication administration.
I decided that I would get a bright red medication bag to carry the Epi Pens and Inhaler. The school will keep a set of the medications but he will be transporting the red bag daily in his back pack. This will allow his medication to be at the fingers tips of his bus driver, if a need arises. I also get a second bag to keep in my bag that I take everywhere.
I also get some little charms to put on his bag that indicates that there is an Epi Pen and Inhaler in his bag. I am hoping the charms will be attention if there is a need.
I also made sure that his allergy bracelet, that he wears daily, is in good shape!
I think we are ready, well he is ready. His mamma, well that might be another story! After all, he IS my baby!
Leave me a comment and tell me how you are doing with your BTS preparation!
