In November 2011, Toddler Veg at the age of 18 months old was diagnosed with a life threatening allergy to peanuts and tree nuts as well as gluten, soy and dairy. I plan to use this as a diary of events…the highs and the lows. I hope that as you read this you will chime in with any opinions, ideas, concerns or encouragement! Our journey begins now….
I’ma back! I did take a week off of DAM and enjoyed Memorial Day with my family! It was nice, I hope that yours was great too!
HEY, did you notice my new graphic for this? Its pretty awesome! If you are looking for a new logo or graphic for your website you can use my designer! Her name is Sara, she’s from Featherie Designs. Sorry, I had to plug it, I just love my new graphics. Check out her; she’s super affordable!
Okay back to allergies…a couple of weeks ago Gluten Free on a Shoestring posted a piece called “keep your hands off my gluten free kid”. I really like Nicole her and blog; she says so many things that I want to say! This post was kind of new for her in my book; she’s not afraid to share her opinions but they are usually within her post. I am guessing something happened in her life and she as many of us do, just needed to vent. You can read her full post here. I completely agree with her that its not any “skin off my back” to fix my kid safe food. When it comes to health I am not going to give my kid a cupcake, just this one time. If it has an allergen in it, he’s not going to eat it. I felt alot of emotion with her post and I made a comment. She kept the comments open for a while as many others felt emotion. She ended up closing the comments; it was getting heated.
Here is her response to my comment:

Oh, Cindy, we could swap stories! You trusted yourself, and you kept pushing ahead. And he’s so little! You do whatever you need to do, and make no apologies.
xoxo Nicole
Sometimes you just need to hear those little words of encouragement. In this case the little words come from somebody whom I really look up too. I think the key is “make NO apologies.” That is huge. I brought my own cupcakes or snack because I wanted my child to be safe, instead of “I am sorry, but I brought my own snack.”
So carry on my Mamma and Pappa Bears! GRRRRR…make no apologies! You are there to take care of your kiddo!
Have you had to be a Mamma or Pappa Bear recently when it comes to the allergy safety of your child? I’d love to hear about it!
