In November 2011, Toddler Veg at the age of 18 months old was diagnosed with a life threatening allergy to peanuts and tree nuts as well as gluten, soy and dairy. I plan to use this as a diary of events…the highs and the lows. I hope that as you read this you will chime in with any opinions, ideas, concerns or encouragement! Our journey begins now….
Good morning! We had Toddler Veg’s 2nd birthday this weekend. First off, I can’t believe he’s two? Seriously, where does the time go? I know have a 4.5 and 2 year old. UMM, wasn’t I just pregnant with the first one? So this was our first birthday with allergies. We had a small party with neighbors and families. To be honest, I am so terrified of a reaction.
I’ll admit I did put a blurb on the invite about his allergies and asked that everybody wash their hands, face and mouth before they come if they ate peanut butter for breakfast. I asked that if they did eat peanut butter, especially the little ones that they check their clothes. This might seem crazy, but they are coming into my world. My world that I already know is safe. They are entering my safe bubble. When it comes to my child’s safety and health and its a life threatening situation, I am going to make those requests. I think keeping the party limited to neighbors and family helped. But I was truly extremely stressed over the situation
At the end of the day, he did have about 10 hives. They were large for him. He did have a rash of some sort on his side and back. I am unsure what he came into contact with, but something did reach his little body and that something also affected his digestion system in a negative way. But in the grand scheme of things we didn’t have to use the epi-pen. So I guess that makes it a success?
How have you been handing birthday parties?
